Quick explanation
It is not allowed for a man to be married to two women at the same time.
Why is this correct?
Polygamy is forbidden in Germany; you may only be married to one person at a time.
Background
Germany protects marriage and the family (Article 6 of the Basic Law) but gives people a lot of freedom in how they live together. Many forms of living are allowed: married and unmarried couples, blended families, same-sex couples, single parents or shared flats. The only thing forbidden is being married to several people at once; bigamy is a criminal offence under Section 172 of the Criminal Code. This question is closely related to question 252.
Why are the other answers wrong?
Divorced people living with new partners is allowed. Two women may live together and, since 2017, also marry. A single father with children is a completely normal family.
Memory tip
Many ways of living are allowed – just not several spouses at once.
