Quick explanation
Eligible voters elect the members of the Bundestag.
Why is this correct?
In representative democracy, eligible citizens cast their votes in the federal election.
Background
“All state authority is derived from the people,” says Article 20 of the Basic Law. That is why eligible citizens elect the members of the Bundestag, usually every four years. German citizens aged 18 and over are eligible to vote. With the first vote you choose a person in your constituency, with the second vote a party.
Why are the other answers wrong?
The military, the economy and the administration have no vote of their own in elections. Soldiers, business owners or civil servants may of course vote – but only as individual eligible citizens, not as institutions.
Memory tip
Democracy means rule by the people: the people vote.
