Why is this correct?
The objection must reach the tax office within one month of the assessment being issued.
Background
The tax assessment is the tax office’s decision on your tax, for example after your income tax return. If you think it is wrong, you file an objection in writing or electronically via ELSTER and give your reasons. This is free of charge. The tax office then reviews the case again. If it sticks to its decision, you can take the matter to the fiscal court. Anyone who misses the deadline generally has to accept the assessment – it becomes final.
Why are the other answers wrong?
Doing nothing, throwing the assessment away or waiting for a new one does not help: after one month, the incorrect assessment becomes binding and you have to pay.
