Background

In companies with at least five permanent employees, the employees can elect a works council, usually every four years. The works council represents their interests towards the employer and has co-determination rights, for example on working hours, holiday planning and overtime. Before every dismissal, the employer must consult the works council. Members of the works council have special protection against dismissal so that they can act independently.

Why are the other answers wrong?

A company auditor (Betriebsprüfer) is an employee of the tax office or pension insurance who checks a company’s books. A company group (Betriebsgruppe) is, for example, a group of trade union members. Company management is the leadership of the company, i.e. the employer side.
