Quick explanation
The election of a federal state’s parliament is called a state election (Landtagswahl).
Why is this correct?
In most states the state parliament is called the Landtag.
Background
Each federal state has its own parliament. In 13 states it is called Landtag, in Berlin Abgeordnetenhaus and in Hamburg and Bremen Bürgerschaft. State elections usually take place every five years, in Bremen every four years. The elected Landtag passes state laws, for example on schools and the police, and elects the Minister-President.
Why are the other answers wrong?
In a local election (Kommunalwahl) you elect the council of a town, municipality or district. In the European election you elect the European Parliament, in the federal election the Bundestag.
Memory tip
Land (state) → Landtag → Landtagswahl.
