Quick explanation

The Federal Chancellor spends most of their time in Berlin.

Why is this correct?

That is where the Federal Chancellery and the Bundestag are located.

Background

Since parliament and government moved from Bonn, the Federal Chancellor has worked in Berlin. The Federal Chancellery is in the government district directly opposite the Reichstag building, where the Bundestag meets. Cabinet meetings take place there and the Chancellor has their office there. The Bundestag moved to Berlin in 1999, and the Chancellery moved into its new building in 2001.

Why are the other answers wrong?

Bonn was the capital until 1990 and the seat of parliament and government until 1999. Today Bonn is a “Federal City” and still has some ministries, but neither the Chancellery nor the Bundestag. Meseberg Palace is the federal government’s guest house, and Bellevue Palace is the official residence of the Federal President – the Chancellor is only there for special occasions.

Memory tip

Capital Berlin: Bundestag, Chancellery, Federal President – all there.
