How to Register for the German Naturalization Test

Find an approved test centre, ask for a date and prepare the documents: registration explained step by step.

Einbürgerungstest

You register for the naturalization test with an approved local test centre, not on this website; the test fee is €25. Adult education centres (VHS) often offer dates, but availability and registration procedures differ by location. BAMF confirms the test-centre process, fee and identity-document requirement.

Step 1: Find an approved centre

Use the information and test-centre search linked by BAMF. Contact centres near you directly and ask whether they offer the Einbürgerungstest or Leben in Deutschland test.

Step 2: Ask what the centre requires

Confirm the date, registration deadline, fee, accepted payment method and documents. You will normally need a valid identity document. Follow the centre’s instructions because local processes can differ.

Step 3: Register early

Appointments may fill up. Register as soon as you know when you need the certificate and ask how long results currently take. Do not book travel or citizenship appointments based on an unconfirmed estimate.

Step 4: Prepare the correct state questions

Study the 300 general questions and the 10 questions for the federal state where your primary residence is registered. The real paper contains 30 general and 3 state questions.

Start with the BAMF naturalization test information and treat the instructions from your chosen centre as binding for the appointment.
