Quick Controls
The correct answer is:
a kindergarten spot.
einen Kindergartenplatz.
Independent study resource, not a BAMF website. Translations are study aids; the exam is in German.
Quick explanation
From the age of three until starting school, children are entitled to a nursery (Kindergarten) place.
Why is this correct?
This legal entitlement has existed since 1996; since 2013 there has also been an entitlement to childcare from the first birthday.
Background
The legal entitlement means: the town or district must offer a place if the parents want one. If there is no place, parents can if necessary take legal action. Attendance itself remains voluntary (see question 242). Especially for children whose families speak another language at home, nursery is a good opportunity to learn German early and make friends. You should register your child early, because places are scarce in some cities.
Why are the other answers wrong?
Pocket money is given by parents, not the state. There is no entitlement to a place in a sports club or to a holiday pass, although many towns offer affordable holiday programmes.
Memory tip
From 3: right to a nursery place; from 1: right to childcare.
