Quick explanation

Several parties represent the different opinions of citizens.

Why is this correct?

Only with several parties do voters have a real choice between different political positions.

Background

In a democracy, people have different opinions and interests. Parties gather these opinions, turn them into programmes and stand for election. Only if there are several parties do voters have a real choice. Article 21 of the Basic Law says that parties participate in forming the political will of the people.

Why are the other answers wrong?

Several parties do not automatically prevent bribery – there are laws and controls for that. In a democracy, demonstrations should not be prevented; they are protected by freedom of assembly. Economic competition is a matter for the economy, not the reason for having several parties.

Memory tip

Many opinions → many parties.
