The correct answer is:
forced labor
Zwangsarbeit
Independent study resource, not a BAMF website. Translations are study aids; the exam is in German.
Quick explanation
The Basic Law prohibits forced labour.
Why is this correct?
People may not generally be compelled to work; free choice of occupation and working abroad are not the prohibition asked for.
Background
Article 12 of the Basic Law protects freedom of occupation. It also states that nobody may be forced to do a particular kind of work, and that forced labour is only permitted for people deprived of their liberty by a court decision, for example work in prison. History is part of the background: under National Socialism, millions of people were forced to do forced labour.
Why are the other answers wrong?
Military service is not forbidden – Article 12a explicitly allows it. Free choice of occupation is not forbidden but a fundamental right. Working abroad is also allowed; anyone may leave Germany and work in another country.
Memory tip
What is forbidden is the force, not the work: forced labour.
